The Golden State K9 Association is mourning the loss of one of their own. Retired K9 Rex, a 14 year old Belgian Malinois and 8 Year Veteran of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation K9 Unit, passed early Monday Morning May 10, 201 surrounded by family and his longtime partner Officer Diaz.

Born May 12, 2007, Rex joined the CDCR K9 Team in September of 21010 after being donated by Adlerhorst International @adlerhorstk9 of Jurupa Valley, CA. K9 Rex retired May of 2018 after 8 years of loyal and dedicated service to CDCR as well as the people of the Great State of California.

K9 Rex was credited with countless contraband discoveries throughout his long and successful career. Local, State, Federal Agencies and community organizations grew to depend of K9 Rex and his reputation of excellence. The success of K9 Rex and Officer Diaz in the early history of the CDCR K9 Unit helped demonstrate the effectiveness of K9 Teams and laid a foundation for the expansion of the 70 K9 strong statewide program it is today.

We hope the memories of K9 Rex bring comfort to those who loved him so much. May K9 rest in peace, your impact will never be forgotten.

Faithfully Serving- Loyal to the End
